Defend Texas Liberty PAC Releases Poll Revealing Phelan Underwater and Texas Republicans Supporting Paxton Acquittal

WILLOW PARK, TX, October 10th, 2023—On Tuesday, Defend Texas Liberty PAC released their monthly poll of Republican voters in Texas.

In regards to the presidential election, Nikki Haley surpassed Ron DeSantis for a distant second place behind Trump who currently has 58% of likely voters supporting his nomination

Statewide favorability numbers are strong for Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who holds 51% favorability from Republican voters, and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who currently holds 49% favorability among Republicans following what can only be described as an all out assault on his reputation.

House Speaker Dade Phelan, on the other hand, has only 10% favorability with Republican voters. 28% of Republican voters have a negative opinion of him. A 3:1 favorability ratio makes Phelan a liability to many of the more liberal House Republicans whom he is trying to keep in office.

Texas voters are very aware of the recent impeachment trial of Ken Paxton. 89% of voters are aware that Paxton was acquitted and 56% of Texas Republicans support the Senate’s decision while only 18% oppose.

Jonathan Stickland, President of Defend Texas Liberty PAC commented on the poll:

“The vast majority of Texas Republicans are conservatives who know what time it is. Only a small contingent of extreme liberal voters in the GOP are aligned with Dade Phelan and his radical views. It is clear that if Dade Phelan plans on going into the districts of the loyalists in his caucus he will do them more harm than good.”
